Kickstarter Launched for Reimagined 8-Bit Songs From “The Legend of Zelda”

A new Kickstarter campaign hopes to send the sounds of the most technically advanced entries in The Legend of Zelda series back to the 80s.

BitShift – The Cartridge of Time is a new project from composer Giovanni Rotondo. The project involves the physical release of music from the Nintendo Switch and Switch 2 titles, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The “shift” is that Rotondo will reimagine some of the iconic music from the 2017 and 2023 games as 8-bit soundtracks.

The new music will be released as multiple special-edition vinyls, which include a glow-in-the-dark pressing and two multi-color splatter designs. Rotondo is also dusting off ancient technology to release the soundtracks on Nintendo Entertainment System cartridges, which were discontinued by Nintendo in the 90s.

At the time of writing, the campaign has already surpassed its $9,842 goal with over two weeks remaining, but others are free to pledge for access to the rewards. You can learn more about BitShift’s campaign to re-imagine the music of the modern-day Legend of Zelda games and pledge to the cause on its official Kickstarter page.
