Matoma is postponing his podcast and temporarily stepping back from music after a seizure sent him to the hospital, the latest warning sign in years of juggling a punishing tour schedule, youth philanthropy work and a battle to save his hometown high school.

Known for his many tropical house hits and his work as the founder of the philanthropic foundation One In A Million, the Norwegian dance music star shared the news with followers this week in a candid statement about burnout and the need to prioritize his health.

The seizure occurred in the shower just before his honeymoon, causing him to fall and hit his head, which ultimately required eight stitches and left him with a severe black eye.

“One of several experiences that has really put things into perspective and another reminder from my body that I need to listen more carefully to it. I’ve been running at full speed these past few years,” Matoma wrote. He also cited his efforts to build a free cultural space for children in his hometown of Åsnes and the exhausting work to preserve a local high school, which will now reopen after a politician reversed an earlier decision.

Matoma, whose real name is Tom Lagergren, will release one final podcast episode on November 19th before taking an extended break.

“I’m not a victim of my own choices!” Lagergren said. “I’ve chosen all of this because I’m passionate about it. But now I feel it’s time to be honest with myself: I need to breathe.”

The DJ plans to return in 2026 “with even more joy, strength, and music,” he added. For now, he remains focused on the opening of the new school in Åsnes, scheduled for December 16-18.
