Pasquale Rotella Responds to EDC Orlando Festival Overcrowding Concerns

Insomniac Events founder and CEO Pasquale Rotella has responded to a wave of crowding complaints at EDC Orlando, where heavy rains and limited water access led to widespread social media criticism of the 2026 festival’s conditions.

EDC Orlando took place November 7-9 at its longtime home of Tinker Field. In a statement posted on Instagram after the event, Rotella said that while many praised this year’s edition as a favorite, he was aware of “comments and concerns” about the site’s layout and infrastructure. He cited lightning and a Sunday night downpour as key factors that shrank the usable space and forced tighter crowd flow around stages.

“While it was uncomfortable, it was a crowd flow issue, and not a surge or crush. We had no medical incidents due to this, and it cleared quickly,” he wrote. “This crowd flow was further impacted by our medical team addressing an unrelated medical call at the First Aid tent, located directly in front of that path.”

Despite his response, a deluge of replies to the post continued to characterize the conditions as inexcusable, with some describing the congestion as resembling a crush.

One attendee commented: “I can ASSURE you that this was most certainly a crowd crush. (I went as far as to look up the definition before proclaiming this). I was in this crowd crush, and it was frightening to the point of an extreme anxiety attack that I could not calm from and even at this moment gives me extreme anxiety even thinking about it.”

Rotella also addressed the contentious decision to limit the event to a single centralized water station. While some attendees reported long waits, he said the goal was to reduce congestion by streamlining hydration points into one large area with multiple refill spots.

“We decided this year at EDC and across many of our festivals to have only one large water station destination rather than smaller ones that cause congestion throughout the site,” Rotella wrote. “This allows us to add more refill points, help Headliners rehydrate faster, and alleviate congestion pinch points throughout the festival.”

The post follows a similar message from Rotella in the wake of last year’s EDC Orlando, when complaints about overcrowded walkways prompted him to promise expanded space and improved routing. Despite those changes, weather conditions and onsite medical activity once again revealed pressure points that the team claims it will reassess ahead of 2026.
