Steve Aoki and Nicky Romero Channel Club Energy in New EP, “Higher Off The Ground”

Steve Aoki and Nicky Romero have joined forces for a collaborative EP, Higher Off The Ground, out now via the former’s Dim Mak Records.

Their first release together since 2018’s “Be Somebody,” the EP reflects what Aoki described as the project’s core intention: capturing that exact moment when the music locks in with the crowd and everything starts to lift.

“Working with Nicky on the Higher Off The Ground EP has been pure energy from day one,” Aoki said. “We’ve both been part of the dance music journey for so long, and this project is about pushing that evolution even higher. Every track is built for that moment when the crowd and the music connect—when you lift off the floor and hit that next level together. That’s the spirit of Higher Off The Ground.”

That lift begins with the title track “Higher Off The Ground,” a high-energy opener built around a pulsing bassline. The lyrics trace a rush of desire with a club-minded delivery: “I need your lipstick on my mouth / I need you here, I need you now / without you reality fades away / so pull me in, pull me close, say my name / higher off the ground.”

The next track, “Day & Night,” hits with a heavier force, driven by a dense low end and rigid percussive pacing. The bass pulls deeper, and the synths smear with grit to amplify its impact. The vocal loop lingers just beneath the surface of the production, while the rest of the arrangement dominates the room through sheer force.

Romero added: “It’s always a pleasure working with someone who has such a clear, creative and conceptual vision. With the Higher Off The Ground EP, our goal was to create something that captures the energy of a mainstage or festival while maintaining the club feel.”
