If you’ve been catching any of Sub Focus‘ sets this year, you’ve probably already heard some of this new material. He’s been teasing tracks from Contact throughout his DJ performances, festival slots, and those incredible ‘Circular Sound’ headline shows he’s been taking around the globe. So the hype’s definitely been building for this announcement.
This marks Sub Focus’ fourth solo studio album, which is pretty impressive when you consider his track record. His self-titled debut Sub Focus and follow-up Torus both hit certified Silver status, and his 2023 release Evolve cracked the UK Top 40. He also teamed up with fellow Drum & Bass heavyweight Wilkinson back in 2020 for their collaboration album Portals.
The visual identity for Contact is seriously cool too. Sub Focus worked with renowned photographer Neil Krug and the design agency Big Active to create the album artwork, vinyl packaging, and overall aesthetic. They’ve gone all-in on a retro futurism vibe, pulling inspiration from space race-era tech and even NASA’s Voyager mission—specifically the Golden Record that was sent into space. It’s a fitting theme that really ties into the album’s cosmic feel.
Speaking of cosmic achievements, 2025 has been absolutely massive for Sub Focus. He kicked things off by selling out London’s Alexandra Palace, then delivered his biggest performance yet at Glastonbury Festival, where he closed out the IICON stage. Later this month, he’s bringing his groundbreaking ‘Circular Sound’ production to the US with a show in Los Angeles, followed by what’s sure to be an unforgettable sold-out performance at Colorado’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre. That Red Rocks gig is particularly historic—he’ll be the first-ever Drum & Bass artist to headline the iconic Denver venue. And as if that wasn’t enough, he’s already locked in for Coachella 2026 as part of the Drum & Bass collective WORSHIP. Yeah, it’s been quite a year.
For those who aren’t familiar, Sub Focus (Nick Douwma) —has been a driving force in electronic music for two decades now. His early releases were climbing to the top of the UK dance charts way back in 2005, and he’s never really slowed down since. That debut album Sub Focus dropped in 2009 and went certified Silver, but it was really Torus in 2013 that showed just how far he’d come. That record hit number 11 on the UK Official Albums Chart and spawned some massive singles, including “Tidal Wave” featuring Alpines, which peaked at number 12, plus the top ten bangers “Endorphins” with Alex Clare and “Turn Back Time.” Then came Evolve in 2023, another UK Top 40 success that featured “Ready To Fly,” his Gold-selling collab with Dimension.
The collaboration game has always been strong with Sub Focus. Beyond Portals, his 2020 album with Wilkinson that hit number one on the OCC Dance Chart, he’s worked with some serious names. There’s “Desire” with Dimension from 2018, which went certified Platinum. He joined forces with UK duo Chase & Status on “Flashing Lights,” brought in Bloc Party’s Kele Okereke for “Turn It Around,” and collaborated with the incredibly talented MNEK on “Close.” He even produced Example‘s 2010 hit “Kickstarts,” which climbed all the way to number 3 in the UK.
While his studio work is undeniably impressive, Sub Focus has built just as much of his reputation on his live performances. His ‘Circular Sound’ audiovisual show has become legendary, taking over iconic venues worldwide, from London’s Alexandra Palace to the Wembley OVO Arena. He’s currently touring across the globe right now, so if you want to catch him live, head over to subfocus.com for the full list of dates.
