Supertask has released y=, a massive collection of 50 tracks that spans both fresh production and deep cuts, with some reaching back as far as 15 years ago.
In true Supertask fashion, y= takes us across the genre gamut while remaining tethered to his signature sound with ambient, glitchy textures. Supertask’s production finesse is both chilling and comforting, ranging from minimalistic heavy-hitters to haunting soundscapes.
The collection, which arrives days after Supertask announced his “Phase II: Observation” tour, stands as a testament to his expansive range. Thanks to its intensely meticulous and wildly creative arrangements, the project feels like peering inside his mind.
“I just released 50 songs on Bandcamp,” Supertask shared on Instagram. “Some of these are 15 years old. Some are brand new. All of them are parts of me that I am choosing to let go of. Accepting them as they are without feeling things needed to be perfect, is the most honest, because I am not perfect.”
“People often put artists on a pedestal,” he continued. “Artist[s] often try to have a perfect public perception. But it’s all a lie. I make mistakes like everyone else. This is a collection of raw music that isn’t polished or complete, as a testament to myself; a work in progress. Thanks for listening and helping me find purpose in my life. Thanks for sticking with me all these years. I hope they find you.”
The producer’s “Phase II Observation” tour will kick off at Denver’s Mission Ballroom on March 13th before stopping in Chicago, Seattle, Philadelphia and more major cities.
